A German friend – we will call him a friend – came round to my house one Saturday afternoon, to tell me he had done a really stupid thing. He had threatened to hit his girlfriend (though swore he didn’t intend to hit her). For the next hour or so he bled his heart out to me saying what an idiot he was for doing such a stupid thing.
I went with him to see her because he was under a restraining order for this and wasn’t allowed within 10 metres of her. So it was a bizarre experience when he met with her – she on one side of the road he on the other – and me in the middle. Afterwards more heart bleeding where he explained how difficult it was to keep his distance from her when his heart was racing and he just wanted to hug her and say he was sorry.
That night I literally got the guitar out and put down the words to a little chord progression I was playing around with at the time. I recorded the whole song that night, words included, put it on a CD and when I saw him the next day told him to give the disc to her and tell her this was how he was feeling.
She listened to it and RESULT, she came back to him.

Lyrics
Verse 1
I’ve done many things in my short life
But none as dumb as the other night
Words can’t say how much I miss you
Nor describe how bad I feel
Verse 2
It was Jealousy that took a hold,
We had words and I lost control
But there’s no way I would hurt you
Nor harm a head upon your head
Chorus
I’ll hold on till tomorrow
And Hope it goes well
Will we ever be together again
Only time will tell x 3
Verse 3
I’ve kept my distance to give you space
I’m so ashamed of my fall from grace
It’s so easy to say I'm sorry
But so hard to make you hear
Verse 1
The day I saw you my heart just leapt
But I couldn’t hold you and my body wept
And inside my head was spinning
And I had to walk away
Chorus
I’ll hold on till tomorrow
And Hope it goes well
Will we ever be together again
Only time will tell x 3
Verse 5
I know the hurt I've put you through
I know the pain cos I felt it too
Can I tell you please forgive me
And you know its not my way
Verse 6
Can you see it in your heart once more
To let me through the open door
And I’ll hold on till tomorrow
And be thankful for today
Chorus
I’ll hold on till tomorrow
And Hope it goes well
Will we ever be together again
Only time will tell x 3
